Dundee Water innovator secures £350,000 to scale micro-greywater recycling technology

Dundee-based water innovation firm Cascade Water Products secured up to £350,000 in angel investment to accelerate the commercial rollout of its micro-greywater recycling technology.

Dundee-based water innovation firm Cascade Water Products has secured up to £350,000 in angel investment to accelerate the commercial rollout of its micro-greywater recycling technology. The funding, from a group of European and American high net worth investors, marks a significant step as the Scottish company moves from long-term development into scaled production.

Founded by Angus-based entrepreneurs Carolyn Hogg and Peter Holdsworth, Cascade Water Products is the result of more than a decade of research and engineering. What began as a kitchen-table project has developed into a proven system designed to tackle growing pressures on water resources, even in countries traditionally considered water-rich.

Cascade’s technology captures and treats water from showers and baths for reuse in toilet flushing, reducing household water consumption by up to 45 per cent. The system is particularly suited to homes with private water supplies, houses in multiple occupation, rental and social housing, and holiday accommodation, where water efficiency directly affects costs and sustainability credentials.

The need for such solutions has been highlighted by recent water supply challenges in Scotland, including Backwater Reservoir near Dundee falling to 43 per cent capacity, less than half of normal winter levels. These conditions have reinforced the importance of practical water efficiency measures across both residential and commercial properties.

Cascade’s system has been operating continuously in the founders’ home for more than three years, providing real-world evidence of its reliability and performance. This extended testing period has allowed the company to refine the design while demonstrating its suitability for everyday use.

Peter Holdsworth, Co-Founder and Chief Engineer, said the investment marks the moment Cascade can bring its product to market, following years of development and validation. Lead investor Mohan Ramani described the company as a strong example of Scottish innovation addressing a global challenge with a credible, proven solution.

With funding secured, Cascade will focus on establishing its supply chain, scaling production and developing its go-to-market strategy. The company will showcase its technology at Future Build 2026 and is targeting self-build homeowners alongside commercial opportunities in leisure, tourism and the HMO sector, positioning Scotland as a source of world-class water technology innovation.
